Baton Rouge (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated Mourns the Passing of Charter Member V. Jean Butler
The Baton Rouge (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated with profound sadness and reverence, acknowledges the passing of Charter Member, V. Jean Butler. She transitioned peacefully on November 23, 2025.
V. Jean Butler was a visionary leader and a founding pillar of the Baton Rouge Chapter, chartered on November 28, 1964. Alongside other charter members, she recognized the opportunities for service inherent in the challenges of a changing society, setting the trajectory for over sixty years of sustained community impact in East Baton Rouge Parish.
During her decades of dedicated service, charter member V. Jean Butler embodied the core principles of The Links, Incorporated, committing her intellect, energy, and resources to our five Facets of Service. Her foresight and dedication were instrumental in establishing signature programs that have enriched the lives of countless African American residents, specifically in the areas of educational attainment and promoting a culture of wellness. Even after transitioning to Alumna status, her spirit remained an active and inspiring force within the chapter.
“The loss of charter member V. Jean Butler leaves an irreplaceable void in our chapter and in the heart of the Baton Rouge community she tirelessly served,” said Cheryl Hall-DeRouen, President of the Baton Rouge (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. “She was more than a charter member; she was a mentor to many, a standard-bearer, and the embodiment of excellence in service. The infrastructure of care and advocacy she helped build continues to support our most vulnerable populations today.”
The Baton Rouge (LA) Chapter extends its deepest condolences to our beloved sister's family, friends, and loved ones. We commit ourselves to honoring her legacy by continuing the vital work she started—to be a catalyst for the improvement and enhancement of academic achievement, health, and civic activities in our community.
